James founded her label last year, but her love of making clothes goes back to her college days. While studying at Oklahoma State University, James was a big thrift shopper, and spent a lot of her free time scouring second hand stores for retro attire, which she would then flip on resale sites such as Depop or Etsy. She then turned to YouTube for help on how to DIY the pieces she would find, which often came from Adidas, Champion, and, yes, Nike. It was a patchwork tank made from old Nike tops, produced for a friend. They have a fitted, corset-like silhouette but are still stretchy and comfortable at the same time. “Everyone saw that one picture and wanted one,” she says.
